This class is designed so that parent and child will feel comfortable in the water and learn how to play safely. Child will learn to ask for permission before entering the water and explore submerging and buoyancy in the water. This is a parent/child participation class. Swim diapers covered by plastic vinyl coveralls are required.

This class provides exploration of submersion in a rhythmic pattern, along with gliding and performing combined stroke on front and back with assistance. This class is designed for children as their first class without their parents. Your child will be oriented to the aquatic environment and will gain basic aquatic skills.

This class helps children gain more independence in their swimming skills and develop greater comfort in and around the water. Child must be able to glide on front two body lengths and roll to back and float for 3 seconds.

This class is designed for children who can swim a combined stroke on front for 3 body lengths, float on their back for 5 seconds and continue to swim on front 3 more body lengths. They also must be able to glide on front and back for 2 body lengths. Children will gain the basic propulsive skills required for them to be comfortable in and around the water.

This class teaches participants to feel comfortable in the water by teaching them elementary aquatic skills. Participants learn basic personal water safety information and good swimming habits.

This class is designed to give participants success with fundamental skills. Student must be able to enter the water independently, travel at least 5 yards, bob three times and exit the water. They must be able to glide on their front at least 2 body lengths and roll to a back float for 3 seconds.

This class builds on the skills learned in Level 2 through guided practice. They will learn to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke. To participate in this level, your child must be able to swim on their front with combined arm and leg movements for 5 body lengths, roll to the back for 15 seconds, return to their front and swim 5 more body lengths.

This class develops confidence in the strokes your child has learned plus sidestroke, back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly are added. Students must be able jump in, swim front crawl 15 yards, tread or float for 30 seconds and swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards.

This class is designed to work on coordination and refinement of strokes. Students refine their performance of all strokes and increase their distances. To participate in this class, students must be able to jump into deep water, swim front crawl and elementary backstroke for 25 yards and swim breaststroke and back crawl for 15 yards.

This course is designed to refine strokes so students swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. This course is designed to be customized depending on student objectives including entrance into competitive swimming or improvement of personal water safety. Student must be able to swim front crawl for 50 yards, elementary back stroke for 50 yards, breaststroke for 25 yards and back crawl for 25 yards.

Every child is taught by only one swim instructor and can progress at his or her own pace. Lessons are scheduled based upon instructor and student availability. Lessons are available in 15- or 30-minute sessions. Times and dates for the lessons are determined between you and the instructor. Receive a complimentary 15-minute lesson, if you buy a package of four hours of private lessons. Please call the Aquatics office at 616-254-8831 and leave your name, phone number, and age of the participant to schedule a lesson with an instructor. You will then be contacted to arrange the lessons.

The STARS Swim Club is the pathway for the competitive swimmer. The program is focused on developing the person behind the swimmer. The program concentrates on training in the technical and tactical components as well as the mental and physiological aspects of swimming. Swimmers build endurance, refine stroke technique, meet other kids and compete against their own times. Participants must be able to swim one length (25 yards) non-stop to be eligible to enroll.
